Who We Are

Description of Program:

Independently run, 45-day
generator technician program for emergency power technicians. This program includes 6
weeks at Prime Power’s state of the art training facility and 6 weeks OJT with
the parent company. Apprentices can be experienced technicians or new to
industry. The parent company must select/recruit apprentices and cover housing
costs while at Prime Power’s campus.

A $2000 down payment is required upon sign
up.

The next generator technician program starts on January 16, 2023. Sign-ups for the program will be open until
two weeks prior to the start date. Any requests after that will be accepted on
a case-by-case basis and for an additional 10% fee.

Description of Training:

Prime Power’s apprentice program includes
240 hours of training at Prime Power 20% of that time is in the classroom
learning diesel theory, safety basics, standards and regulations, as well as
electrical calculations. The other 80% of the program is focused on working,
hands-on in our lab. The students will work on diesel and gaseous engines, work
directly on every component of a generator including but not limited to the
prime mover, voltage regulators, alternators (gen-end), fuel, coolant, and oil
systems, and electrical starting system. The key results of the program will be
that each technician is EGSA certified and will complete a comprehensive and task-based
training program.  

Topics include: Basic electricity, diesel theory, electrical and arc flash safety, battery theory and troubleshooting, voltage regulation, electrical starting systems, fluid systems and analysis, primary maintenance, power distribution basics, troubleshooting and triage basics, load bank theory and application, trend analysis, and more!
